Kodak, Philips - PCD-860 video CDM-9 Lecteur de CD

Rare collectors item! A flagship device of the early 1990s, developed in collaboration with Philips for the audio-video sector. Before the advent of CD burners for personal computers, digital photo storage was the exclusive preserve of professional photographers due to the high cost of the equipment. This device not only played standard audio CDs (it also reads our CDRs), but also allowed viewing photographs that the photographer had previously prepared on digital media (a different encoding from today's). The standard was not successful on the mainstream market and soon disappeared. What remains, however, is a device that, like all early creations, was meticulously designed and built with premium materials to avoid any market failure: a double-sided shielded circuit board with select components, separate power supplies, etc. Proof of this is evident in the mechanics: the glorious Philips CDM9 magnetic drive found in high-end players such as Rotel, Arcam, Audiolab, Burmester, Krell, Micromega, Marantz, Mission, Naim, Quad, to name a few. From an audio perspective, bitstream conversion is handled by a Philips SAA7321GP DAC with digital filter. With remote control!
