On the first type (such as this one), the position of the swords was pointed downwards. However, the Awards Commission subsequently deemed this inconsistent with established heraldic canons, as the symbol of victory is swords raised upward.
The order was established on December 4, 1992, to reward exceptional bravery, dedication, and courage displayed in defense of the Republic of Abkhazia.
