ABOUT THE ARTWORK
“Perseus and Medusa” revisits classical mythology through a contemporary stencil language.
Rather than focusing on violence, I centered the composition on tension and contrast — beauty and danger, light and shadow, control and chaos. Perseus is depicted in a sculptural posture, calm and determined, while Medusa’s severed head floats as a suspended symbol of power conquered.
The piece plays with classical references, echoing antique marble statues while translating them into a sharp, graphic urban aesthetic. The double-layer stencil technique allowed me to sculpt anatomy and expression through precise contrasts. Every element was digitally designed and manually hand-cut before being applied with spray paint.
The textured blue-grey background was created instinctively, evoking stone, time and erosion — reinforcing the mythological atmosphere while maintaining a contemporary edge. This dialogue between spontaneity and precision defines my artistic identity.
This is an original, one-of-a-kind artwork. While the stencil may reappear in future explorations, each background is unique, ensuring singularity and authenticity.
A tribute to courage, strategy and the eternal struggle between fear and mastery.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Alexandre Petrus is a French stencil artist working at the crossroads of street art, digital creation and traditional craftsmanship. Based in the South of France, he designs his stencils digitally before printing and hand-cutting them with extreme precision.
His artistic philosophy is built around “originality in repetition”: the stencil may return, but the background is always spontaneous and unique. This balance between instinct and control shapes his visual language.
He has created large-scale murals across France and performs live paintings for weddings and corporate events, bringing urban art energy into both public and private spaces.
All artworks are original pieces — no prints, no editions.
