Katsu Aoki - Jet Jet Jet - 1975

Jet Jet Jet Katsu Aoki Sponichi Publishing/1975/Japanese/305*220*15 Jet Jet Jet: Photographs by Katsu Aoki. Katsu Aoki, Japan's first and foremost aviation photographer. After graduating from Tokyo College of Photography (now Tokyo Polytechnic University), he worked in the photo department at the Tokyo headquarters of Sports Nippon newspaper before going freelance. Then, starting in 1970, he began photographing aircraft as a contract photographer for Japan Airlines (JAL). At the time, aircraft photography lacked strong precedents—limited to wartime military aircraft, press photos, or airline catalog images. Aoki began relying solely on his own sensibilities. This book is his first collection, published in 1975, just over five years after he started photographing planes. It features aircraft that defined the dawn of jet passenger travel: the Boeing 707, the now-discontinued Boeing 727, and the beloved Boeing 747, known to many as the “Jumbo.” This book is a captivating collection celebrating the beauty of these aircraft—the pinnacle of manufacturing technology, the dreams of the people who built them, and the dreams of photographer Masaru Aoki himself.
