Fauteuil - Hêtre, Noyer - Chaise monumentale de château

Monumental Neo-Renaissance Armchair with Hand-Carved Lion Heads – Solid Wood & Original Leather – ca. 1880–1900. Note: The colour is not fully represented in the photographs. In reality, the tone is slightly more warm tinted yellow. Description A highly impressive and monumental Neo-Renaissance armchair, dating from the late 19th century (circa 1880–1900). This chair was clearly conceived as a ceremonial or representative piece, rather than for domestic everyday use. The chair features deeply hand-carved lion heads at the top of the arm supports, symbolising authority and protection. The carving throughout is sharp and expressive, with foliate motifs, scrollwork and architectural detailing consistent with historicist furniture from the late 19th century. According to oral provenance, the chair originates from a former ecclesiastical or castle-like setting in the region of Vleuten (The Netherlands). While no archival documentation is present, the scale, iconography and craftsmanship are fully consistent with furniture produced for monastic, institutional or aristocratic interiors during this period. Materials & Construction Solid hardwood (likely walnut and beech with walnut finish) Hand-carved details throughout Original thick leather upholstery (seat, arms and back) Upholstery fixed with original decorative upholstery nails Traditional joinery (mortise-and-tenon construction) Condition Structurally solid and stable Original leather upholstery with authentic age-related wear, patina, stains and a small tear (see photos) Wood in very good condition with normal wear consistent with age No modern alterations observed The patina and wear are considered part of the chair’s historical character and authenticity. Style & Context Style: Neo-Renaissance / Historicism Period: Late 19th century Intended use: Ceremonial chair, hall chair, or representative armchair Comparable to furniture used in abbeys, monasteries, castles, manor houses or council halls. Remarks This is a statement piece with strong visual impact, suitable for collectors of historical furniture, interior designers, or theatrical / architectural interiors. Worldwide shipping possible upon buyer’s request. Shipping costs are at the buyer’s expense. PickUp in Zwijndrecht. We take care that the chair will be raped in plastic cling folie.
