Âge du bronze Bronze Pendentif lunaire gravé

A fine bronze scrolled lunar shaped pendant, dating to the Bronze Age. The pendant is composed of a crescent shape with scrolling terminals that taper to a narrow rounded point. A spiralling suspension loop extends upwards from the top of the pendant. A raised rib, beginning at the top loop and continuing along the centre of the scrolling pendant, enriches the design. The reverse of the the pendant is flat and unworked. A beautiful green patina and encrustations to the surface. Signs of wear as consistent with age, such as chipping to the edges, scratches, and pitting. A previous provenance collection number has been written in white on the reverse. European Bronze Age farmers differed from their stone-cutting predecessors – they used horses and chariots to work; kept flocks of sheep for woollen clothing; and used bronze as a standard commodity of exchange. Technological development was rapid; the manufacture of tools and weapons increased; and specialised equipment emerged for shaving, woodworking, and metalworking. At the same time, advancements in decorative arts were also gaining momentum. Crafters of jewellery, accessories, and other personal adornments utilised the versatility of bronze to explore new styles and forms. Measurements: (circa) W 2.6cm x H 3cm Provenance: Ex Wiltshire collection U.K., 30-40 years ago
