Welcome to the next edition of the VERY POPULAR SINGLE-SELLER-AUCTIONS by 5Uhr30.com (Ecki Heuser, Cologne, Germany). This time with a BEST-OF-SELECTION from 1926 to 2026, so of the last 100 (!) years of photobook history. GREAT, BIG BOOK BY AMERICAN PHOTOGRAPHER "WEEGEE THE FAMOUS" - in BRANDNEW CONDITION. Fantastic collection of 359 Vintage Photographs from 1929-1946. Arthur Fellig (1899-1968) became a super star through his book "Naked City". New, mint, unread; still originally shrink-wrapped in publisher's plastic foil. COLLECTOR'S COPY. 5Uhr30.com guarantees detailed and accurate descriptions, 100% protection, 100% insurance and combined shipping worldwide. "No other photographer has caught the sensations, scandals and catastrophes of the 1930s and 1940s in New York City with his camera as captivatingly as Weegee. He was always directly on the spot when it happened and documented the events and the onlookers. All the works come from the N.E.A. agency archive, which was only rediscovered in 2012; most of the vintage prints are being published for the very first time in this volume. Weegee (1899–1968) was the first photographer to receive official permission in 1938 to listen in live to the New York police radio. From then onwards he sometimes even arrived at the trouble spot before the police and took countless photographs. From the hardened police officer to the loud-mouthed crook; from the midnight boozer to the dancing jazz musician; from a dramatic conflagration to the celebrations at the end of the Second World War: Weegee immortalised all these moments in unforgettable pictures. The volume also shows a hitherto unknown side of the famous photographer – happy people enjoying themselves. The works are complemented by the exciting story of the rediscovery of the archive, which was missing for decades." (from the publisher) Gallery Daniel Blau, Munich in cooperaton with Hirmer, Munich. 2017. First edition, first printing. Hardcover with dustjacket. 300 x 240 mm. 336 pages. Photos: Weegee. Edited by Daniel Blau. Layout concept: Daniel Blau. Printing and binding: Printer Trento, Trento. Text: Ryan Adams, Daniel Blau, Herbert Corey, Sydney Picasso. Text in English. Great photobook by "Weegee The Famous" - in perfect condition. Weegee's first book, Naked City (1945), was a runaway success and made him a celebrity who suddenly had assignments from Life and Vogue. By the publication of his second book, Weegee's People (1946, he had cut the wires to his police radio and had begun to photograph the furred and bejeweled grandes dames at the Metropolitan Opera as well as his beloved street people. Naked Hollywood (1953) and Weegee by Weegee (1961) feature portraits of Marilyn Monroe, Andy Warhol, John F. Kennedy, Nikita Khruschev, and Liberace - many of them viewed through the distorted lens of his Weegee-scope. Regarded as some of the most powerful images of 20th-century photography, Weegee's work now resides in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art.
