Description fournie par le vendeur
Splendid large central desk, made of solid walnut and finely carved. This piece represents an excellent example of early-20th-century cabinetmaking, inspired by the principles of Italian Neo-Renaissance.
The structure is characterized by a pair of majestic lyre-shaped supports, richly decorated with volutes, acanthus leaves, and a centrally carved rosette medallion. The feet terminate in imposing ferine paws (lion claws), a symbol of nobility and strength, typical of high-status furnishings.
Technical and Construction Details:
Top: A large rectangular top with a perimeter edge carved in a 'toothed' pattern or waterleaf motif. It is currently protected by a custom-shaped glass that preserves the integrity of the wood underneath.
Drawers: The underside apron houses two conceal-front drawers, equipped with original period locks (one with a brass escutcheon, the other with a simple keyhole).
Base: A sturdy connecting crossmember, also decorated with beadwork, guarantees absolute stability.
Condition status
The object is in excellent preserved condition. The wood patina is warm and deep. There are subtle, natural signs of aging that attest to its authenticity and enhance its historical charm. It has no structural defects or active woodworm infestations.
