Pale white nephrite jade pendant with qilin, with cord -China–21th Century On offer is a good carved white nephrite jade rectangular pendant, with on one side a depiction of a noble qilin. At the other side a Chinese 4 character seal mark. The pendant is semi-translucent and has a white appearance. It is made in the Chinese taste, with a top-edge finished in Archaic style. About: The qilin (麒麟) is a benevolent, mythical creature from Chinese mythology. It is known as one of the four noble heavenly animals and symbolizes good fortune and prosperity. The qilin has the body of a deer, the tail of an ox, the hooves of a horse, and often a horn or antlers on its head. Has been identified as nephrite jade by measuring thermal conductivity and hardness and translucency. Provenance: This jade comes from inland China.
