William Angus &Co - Chaise de bureau - Chêne

Revolving office desk chair in solid quarter-sawn oak with leather upholstered seat, manufactured by William Angus & Co. Ltd, England. Circa 1910. William Angus and Co. Ltd was a well-regarded English manufacturer of high-quality office furniture in the early 20th century. The company operated from registered offices at 44–52 Paul Street, London EC2, with manufacturing facilities at Angus Mills in Menstrie, Scotland. They exhibited at the 1922 British Industries Fair as manufacturers of chairs, upholstery, and office furniture. This chair is a fine example of the Edwardian "banker's chair" or "captain's chair" typology — a design that originated in the late 19th century and became a staple of professional offices, courthouses, banks, and libraries on both sides of the Atlantic. The enduring appeal of these chairs lies in their combination of solid craftsmanship, ergonomic design, and timeless aesthetics. Key features: — Solid quarter-sawn oak construction with distinctive medullary ray figure ("tiger stripe" grain) — Curved crest rail flowing into shaped armrests, supported by vertical slat back — Leather upholstered seat with brass nailhead / stud trim around the perimeter — Cast iron swivel, tilt, and height adjustment mechanism with decorative rosette — Spring-loaded tilt mechanism with tension adjustment knob — Four-leg splayed oak base on original metal castors — Chair swivels 360°, tilts back, and adjusts in height via threaded rod Specifications: Manufacturer: William Angus & Co. The leather seat shows gentle wear and has developed an attractive patina. Minor age-related wear to the wood and some light surface marks consistent with age. The original metal castors are present and functioning. No significant repairs or restorations. A beautiful example of early 20th century English craftsmanship, ready for continued daily use. Please refer to the detailed photographs for an accurate representation of condition. Shipping: Shipping available within Europe. The chair will be carefully wrapped and protected for transit.
