Description
The base is made by wood.
Description:
This carved wooden mask represents Yang Ban, a nobleman or aristocrat character from the traditional Korean Hahoe mask drama (Hahoe Byeolsingut Talnori). With exaggerated eyebrows, a wide smiling mouth, and joyful expression, the mask satirizes the upper class, reflecting the play’s critical humor. It is part of a set of Hahoe masks from Andong, designated as Important Intangible Cultural Property No. 69 in Korea. These masks are used in folk dances and dramas to depict various figures from Korean society, each with distinct personality traits. The Yang Ban mask stands out as a symbol of wit, satire, and cultural heritage.
