Ihei Kimura - Photobook "Paris" - 1974

The photobook "Paris" by Ihei Kimura, one of Japan’s representative photographers, is highly regarded worldwide as one of the masterpieces among the countless photobooks on Paris. This item is the first edition published in 1974, and it comes with its original slipcase. A small booklet (in Japanese) containing contributions by Kon Sasaki, Shunji Okura, and Koji Taki is included, in which they write about Kimura’s character and about this work, and it also contains a list of the cameras and lenses that he mainly used. Size: 19.5 × 27 × 4 cm Because it is an old item, the exterior has age-related damage such as sunning, stains, discoloration, and rubbing. The interior shows almost no noticeable damage, but there are several places where the binding has minor, visible cracks that are not separated. No pages are detached. When you bring it close to your nose, there is a slight smell characteristic of old books, somewhat like concrete. Unlike the monochrome Paris captured by photographers with whom Kimura had connections—Henri Cartier-Bresson, Brassaï, and Robert Doisneau—this book is composed entirely in color. At first, he was unable to express the photographs he intended due to the unfamiliar light and climate, and he continued shooting in a state of confusion. However, after being introduced by Doisneau, with whom he got along well as a fellow “downtown kid,” he continued to capture the downtown areas of Paris, and as a result, a new body of work was created that differed from Kimura’s previous style. The Paris captured by the photographer, in the excitement of travel and with a fresh sensibility, is soft and beautiful. This is also the last photobook that Ihei Kimura left during his lifetime. The color in the images may differ slightly from the actual item. Import duties, taxes, and fees are not included in the product price or shipping cost. These charges are the responsibility of the purchaser. Customs or your local delivery company may contact you by phone or email for clearance procedures, so please ensure that you are able to respond. If you are unable to do so, the package may be returned, and reshipping will require additional time and cost.
