A charming stoneware figure depicting Hotei 布袋, the god of contentment and happiness and one of the Seven Lucky Gods 七福神 (Shichifukujin). He is shown reclining in a relaxed pose, smiling gently, holding a Chinese fan 扇 (ōgi) loosely over his shoulder. His robe falls open across the chest, revealing his characteristic rounded, auspicious belly. The posture and expression give the figure an easy, light-hearted presence. Executed in brick-coloured stoneware, the robe covered in a white crackled glaze that contrasts softly with the unglazed body. Signed to the underside. Dimensions: Height 14 cm, Width 31 cm, Depth 19 cm In very good condition, with minimal wear consistent with age. An old firing crack is visible along the lower back.
