CHRISTIAN DIOR x JOHN GALLIANO — CIRCA 1997
“Collier Massaï” Couture Statement Necklace
Rare collectible statement necklace from the early John Galliano era for Christian Dior, circa 1997, part of the iconic “Massai” haute couture jewellery series.
Created during Galliano’s first years at Dior, this piece reflects the house’s radical shift toward theatrical, sculptural couture jewellery inspired by ethnic motifs and reinterpreted through Dior’s signature baroque glamour.
The “Massai” necklaces became emblematic of late 1990s Dior runway aesthetics and helped define the visual language of the house during this transformative period, later associated with the golden, sensual Dior imagery that culminated in the J’adore Dior era.
While not a commercial J’adore piece, its aesthetic belongs to the same visual universe of bold gold, femininity, and couture drama that defined Dior’s image in the early 2000s, famously embodied in campaigns such as those featuring Charlize Theron.
The necklace has a minimum wearable length of 38.5 cm (including clasp), fastened at the last ring.
The central vertical metal bar measures 11.8 cm in height.
The longest detachable strand extends up to 76 cm in length and is adjustable. This longest strand is also removable, allowing for different styling and wearing options
