Title: Unarmed
Artist: Davide Filia
Medium: Oil on canvas
Execution: Original work, hand-signed
The Architect’s Vision:
"Unarmed" is a study of the human body as an architectural element within a defined space. As an Italian architect based in Vienna, my painting process is driven by the same principles I apply to design: the mastery of light, the rigor of proportions, and the relationship between the figure and its environment. In this work, the industrial loft is not merely a backdrop; it is a geometric structure that interacts with the anatomy of the two figures, creating a dialogue between the built environment and the organic form.
Narrative & Concept:
The title refers to the moment of vulnerability when the "armor" is removed. The figures hold their boxing gloves by the laces, shifting the narrative from combat to contemplation. The gloves become a symbolic weight, emphasizing the contrast between the hardness of the leather and the vulnerability of the skin—a theme I explored through years of direct experience with the human form at the Charles H. Cecil Studios in Florence.
Technique:
Through a refined use of oil glazes, I sought to capture the sharp, natural light that carves the muscles and the space. The result is a contemporary figurative work where architectural precision meets emotional honesty.
Condition and Shipping:
The artwork is in excellent condition. Professional shipping from Vienna, carefully packed, tracked, and insured.
