Ce type de masque appartient à la famille des Koma dont la fonction est de détecter ou d'éliminer toute forme de sorcellerie : le Koma Ba (masque féminin) attire les êtres nuisibles, le Koma Su (masque masculin) les détruit. La coiffure de ce masque laisserait penser que celui-ci est féminin.Lorsqu'un masque Koma Ba possède une pâtine croûteuse (ce qui n'est pas le cas ici) c'est que celui a reçu des offrandes.
Ce masque est censé renfermer des substances magiques qui protègent son porteur qui, rappelons le, doit appeler à lui les forces et les êtres maléfiques.
