The Cuvée
Unlike its Bordeaux neighbors, Pétrus does not have "Château" on its label for the simple reason that there is no château at the estate (but a winery). In fact, the cuvée takes its name from the specific vineyard site or from its Latin origin, dating back to Saint Peter (who appears on the label with the keys to paradise).
Located at the top of the Pomerol plateau, the vines are on average 40 years old with a planting density of 6,300 to 7,000 vines per hectare. Particular care is taken in the vineyard. Great red wines made solely from Merlot are rare. But on this unique terroir (due to its high clay content), the grape variety produces an absolutely incomparable velvety texture with unparalleled depth. It reveals itself to be simply majestic, with unmatched power and richness. The wine is concentrated, voluptuous, and supple.
Pair this legendary wine with a flavorful dish such as truffled pheasant à la Périgord, hare stew, or roast lamb shoulder with basil. Serve it at 16-18°C. With fabulous aging potential, this wine, in certain vintages, can be cellared for over fifty years.
