Romain antique Bronze zoomorphe Bague - avec Lion Intaglio Bezel (Sans prix de réserve)

Roman Empire - Ancient Roman Bronze Ring with Lion Intaglio Bezel - ca. 2nd–4th century AD A finely preserved ancient Roman bronze ring featuring a circular bezel engraved with a stylized walking lion rendered in profile. The lion is depicted with an elegantly curved tail and elongated limbs, executed in a minimalist yet expressive linear style characteristic of provincial Roman glyptic art. The ring possesses a slender hoop with slightly expanding shoulders leading to the flat discoid bezel. Its dark green to brown patina, together with light earthen deposits, enhances both the visibility of the engraved motif and the ring’s authentic archaeological character. Lion imagery held powerful symbolic significance throughout the Roman world, representing courage, strength, protection, nobility, and martial virtue. Such rings could function not only as personal adornment but also as amuletic objects or simple signet rings used to mark ownership or identity. The engraving style and construction suggest a dating within the later Roman Imperial period, possibly Eastern Mediterranean or Balkan provincial production. Details: Culture: Roman Empire Date: ca. 2nd–4th century CE Material: Bronze Weight: 1.5 g Inner diameter: 15.7 mm Bezel type: Circular engraved bezel Motif: Walking lion in profile Condition: Very good archaeological condition with stable dark patina and clear engraved decoration. Minor surface wear and deposits consistent with age. Provenance: Ex-private European collection, acquired in the 1980s. A certificate of authenticity is available in PDF format upon request. A charming and wearable example of Roman personal adornment, combining elegant simplicity with enduring symbolic imagery. Particularly attractive due to the clearly legible lion motif and untouched archaeological surface.
