Louis Vuitton - Speedy 40 - Sac

A rare and exceptional piece from the early history of the Louis Vuitton Speedy line.

This Speedy 40 in Monogram canvas was purchased in Nice, France, in the 1960s, from the historic Louis Vuitton boutique on Avenue de Suède — one of the Maison's oldest regional stores, still operating today at the same address.

AUTHENTICATION MARKERS
- Heat stamp reads: "LOUIS VUITTON PARIS / made in france" — lowercase "made in france" is the correct and authentic format for this era
- No date code: Louis Vuitton did not introduce date codes until 1982. The absence of a code on this piece is a direct confirmation of pre-1982 manufacture
- No interior pocket: the interior patch pocket was only introduced on the Speedy line after 1990, further confirming the early production date
- Original brass padlock engraved "LOUIS VUITTON PARIS" with LV monogram medallion on reverse
- Two original numbered keys (no. 225), both matching
- Vachetta leather handles and trim with deep natural honey-brown patina, consistent with 50+ years of use
- Brass hardware with natural verdigris — impossible to replicate artificially
- Single-cut Monogram canvas with reversed motifs on one side — correct and authentic construction method

CONDITION
Honest vintage condition consistent with 60 years of age and use.
- Canvas: intact overall, with two areas of surface wear at lower corners
- Handles: deep patina, structurally sound. Slight detachment at one handle support rivet — visible but stable
- Zip: has been restitched at some point by a non-professional — the repair is visible and imperfect, though functional
- Leather trim: minor areas of leather loss on the piping, consistent with age
- Hardware: verdigris on D-rings and studs, authentic oxidation
- Interior: bare canvas lining in good condition, no pocket (period correct)
- Padlock and both original keys present
