Médiéval, époque des Croisés Bronze Bague - Marque géométrique du marchand (Sans prix de réserve)

Medieval Crusader Period Bronze Signet Ring with Geometric Merchant's Mark Eastern Mediterranean, 12th–14th Century AD An attractive medieval bronze signet ring dating to the Crusader era, featuring a distinctive hexagonal bezel engraved with a geometric device surrounding a stylized central monogram or merchant's mark. The bezel is framed by a carefully executed double hexagonal border enclosing an angular linear motif, possibly representing a personal emblem, ownership mark, guild symbol, or simplified heraldic device. Such rings served not only as personal adornment but also functioned as practical signets used for sealing correspondence and identifying property. The ring displays a robust cast construction with pronounced shoulders rising toward the bezel, a design frequently encountered among Crusader-period and medieval Levantine signet rings. Its restrained geometric decoration reflects the practical and symbolic character of personal seals used by merchants, pilgrims, craftsmen, and minor officials throughout the medieval Eastern Mediterranean. The dark olive-black patina developed over centuries lends the piece an appealing appearance and highlights the engraved design. Condition: Excellent ancient condition overall. The ring remains intact and wearable, with minor age-related wear and light surface abrasions consistent with prolonged burial and antiquity. The engravings remains clearly visible. Measurements Weight: 3.28 g Internal Diameter: 15.8–18.0 mm (slightly oval) Approximate Ring Size: EU: 50–57 US: 5¼–8 Provenance: Acquired from a private European collection, established in the late 1980s. A certificate of authenticity is available in PDF format upon request. Historical Note: During the Crusader period (1099–1291 AD), personal signet rings were widely used throughout the Latin Kingdom of Jerusalem and neighboring Byzantine and Islamic territories. Unlike the elaborate heraldic rings of the nobility, many surviving examples bear simple geometric symbols, merchant's marks, monograms, or abstract devices. These emblems functioned as personal identifiers and often reflected the multicultural artistic influences present in the medieval Eastern Mediterranean. A well-preserved and visually striking medieval signet ring from the age of the Crusades, combining historical significance with strong collector appeal.
