About the estate: The Chave family has been established in Rhône Valley viticulture for several centuries, thanks to a local lord who granted them land at the end of the 15th century. They can therefore boast of being winemakers from father to son since 1481. Jean-Louis Chave, son of Gérard, representing the 16th generation of the family to head the estate, now manages this legendary property on the Hermitage hill... and continues to take on new challenges. The latest: Clos Florentin, acquired in 2009, which had been devastated by phylloxera. In the 1990s, Jean-Louis Chave also acquired plots on the Bachasson hillside, located within the Saint-Joseph appellation, precisely where his ancestors began winemaking.

The 26-hectare estate is dedicated to expressing the best of its terroirs, without selecting specific plots or creating "super cuvées." There is only one exception: the Cathelin cuvée, named after a deceased painter and friend of the winemaker. Produced only in exceptional vintages, its output does not exceed 2,000 bottles per year. Today, Jean-Louis Chave strives to perpetuate the style of the estate's wines, remaining faithful to the ancestral practices that have forged its reputation: controlled yields, no use of herbicides or artificial fertilizers, harvesting as late as possible to achieve perfect ripeness, and minimal intervention winemaking, allowing the wine to develop naturally. The harvest from each plot is vinified and aged separately, allowing it to fully express its unique character, essential for ensuring the final blend achieves a beautiful complexity.

Jean-Louis Chave's wines are renowned for their balance, great finesse, length, and superb aging potential.

About the cuvée: Jean-Louis Chave's Hermitage Blanc is aged for 18 months in oak barrels, resulting in a lovely acidity that will allow it to age for several decades. Developing creamy and honeyed aromas of hazelnut, peach, and apricot, it also offers a remarkably elegant smoothness.
