Paul Monnier (1893 - 1962) was a French artist best known for his watercolours and paintings of villages, churches and landscapes in France. His work demonstrates a keen interest in architecture and rural life, with subjects drawn from regions including Burgundy and Champagne. Monnier worked in a traditional, figurative style. Tranquil compositions, subtle colours, and meticulous depictions of buildings and village scenes characterise his paintings. Although he is not among the best-known French artists of the twentieth century, his work is still appreciated by many collectors. Many of his works have been preserved through family ownership, including this one. Oil on canvas, 50 x 65 cm, 64 x 83 with frame.
