Item Description
大友克洋 Katsuhiro Otomo（1954- ）
This is a rare original Italian theatrical release poster for AKIRA, the legendary 1988 animated film directed by Katsuhiro Otomo, issued to commemorate the film's 25th Anniversary re-release in Italian cinemas on Wednesday, 29 May (2013). The poster was distributed by Nexodigital and Dynit for a special one-night-only event, presented for the first time in 2K digital with PCM Surround 5.1 audio.
The design features the iconic bold red "AKIRA" lettering set against a dramatic black background, with the Japanese katakana title "アキラ" rendered in white brushstroke style below it. A faint illustration of Tetsuo in his mutated form is visible as a ghostly background image. The lower section carries a horizontal filmstrip banner of ten iconic stills from the film, followed by full production credits in Italian.
Text on poster reads: "IL CAPOLAVORO ASSOLUTO DELL'ANIMAZIONE GIAPPONESE" ("The absolute masterpiece of Japanese animation") — "UNITEVI ALLA CELEBRAZIONE" ("Join the celebration") — "SOLO PER UN GIORNO" ("For one day only").
The reverse side is blank white paper. The copyright line reads: (c)1988 MASHROOM / AKIRA COMMITTEE All Rights Reserved, with the credit notation confirming the graphic novel source published in Young Magazine, Kodansha Ltd.
This is a sought-after piece of anime cinema history, combining the iconic visual identity of one of the most influential animated films ever made with its rare Italian market presentation.

Artist Profile
大友克洋 Katsuhiro Otomo（1954- ）
Katsuhiro Otomo (born April 14, 1954, in Tome, Miyagi Prefecture) is a Japanese manga artist, screenwriter, animator, and film director. He debuted as a manga artist in 1973 and rose to international prominence with his landmark science-fiction manga Akira, serialised in Young Magazine (Kodansha) from 1982 to 1990. In 1988, he adapted the work into an animated feature film that he both directed and co-wrote, which became a defining moment in global animation history and is widely credited as a catalyst for the international spread of Japanese anime. Otomo has received numerous honours, including the French Ordre des Arts et des Lettres (Officier, 2014), the Japanese Purple Medal of Honor (2013), the Winsor McCay Award at the Annie Awards (2014), and the Grand Prix at the Angoulême International Comics Festival (2015) — the first manga artist ever to receive this distinction.
