Middle Eas - Perse; M. Seutter - Opulentissimi Regni Persiae - 1721-1750

Impressive old-coloured copperplate map by german mapmaker Matthäus Seutter (1678–1757), Augsburg, c. 1740, based on Guillaume De L’Isle’s landmark Carte de Perse (Paris, 1724).
The map depicts the territory of the Persian Empire and the neighbouring regions. The area depicted stretches from the Crimea and the Black Sea in the west, across the Caspian Sea, to Kashmir and the Mughal Empire in the east. To the south, it reaches as far as the Persian Gulf and the Arabian Peninsula.

In the top right-hand corner is an ornate, figurative title cartouche decorated with traditional figures, a globe and scientific instruments such as a compass.

The individual provinces and regions are distinguished from one another by contemporary area colouring.
