A magnificent and prestigious retrospective album dedicated to the graphic work of the master Júlio Resende (1917–2011), one of the most influential figures in Portuguese modernism and contemporary art.

Entitled “O Lugar do Desenho”, this highly regarded publication brings together a carefully curated selection from the painter’s vast collection of drawings (produced from the 1930s and 1940s onwards), as well as handwritten reproductions of texts and the artist’s own theoretical reflections on the act of drawing and thinking about art.


Originally published by the Júlio Resende Foundation (with graphic design by the renowned designer Armando Alves) in a limited print run and without regular commercial distribution, this work is widely praised for the exceptional quality of the paper and the fidelity of the reproductions (which include Indian ink drawings, watercolours, chalk, coloured pencil drawings and monotypes).
