Early 1800s - Cruche - Grès
The pitcher presented in photos most likely originates from a region of Western Europe attributed to Alsace - France of the second half of 18th century or early 19th century created with an atypical shape due to an minor incident from inside the kiln, resulting in a distinctive example. This kind of traditional stoneware pottery was usually used in rural communities for storing wine, water and other frequently used liquids. Its brown saltglazed surface has common antique features for example patina, irregularities and sticked small pieces of surplus material (see last picture) as a result of classical kiln firing procedures. Condition of this stoneware jug is excellent, with no fisures, chips or other damages, only some normal use signs unde the handle and base.
Dimensions: Height - 25cm, Diameter - 18cm, Weight - 1.25kg.
