[PROVINENZ] RARITÉ !

Heimreich, M. A. Ernewerte Nordfresische Chronick/ Darin die Beschreibung derer dem Schleßwigschen Herzogthum incorporirten Freschen Landschafften Heiligland, Eiderstede, Nord-Strand, Föhre, Silt und Amrum, Tundern, Husum, Tönningen, Friedrichstadt, Bretstede und Gardingen wird vorgestellet. Schleswig, Holwein, 1668.

Engraved copper title by M. Petersen with small town plans of Tondern, Husum, Tönning, Bredstedt and Garding. 16 leaves (of 20), 410 pages, 9 leaves. Later quarter-leather binding with spine label and marbled board covers (slightly rubbed).

Second, expanded edition of this important North Frisian chronicle, offering a comprehensive historical and geographical description of the Frisian landscapes incorporated into the Duchy of Schleswig – among them Heligoland, Eiderstedt, Nordstrand, Föhr, Sylt, Amrum, and the towns of Tondern, Husum, Tönning, Friedrichstadt, Bredstedt and Garding. The work ranks among the most important primary sources for the history of North Friesland in the 17th century and is of outstanding value for regional and local history.

The engraved copper title by M. Petersen, with its embedded town plans, constitutes a cartographic gem of Frisian book history.

Provenance: Title page verse bears an old handwritten signature Müllenhoff – possibly from the collection of the eminent German philologist and folklorist Karl Müllenhoff (1818–1884), who devoted much of his scholarly life to the history and culture of North Friesland.

Condition:
19,5x15,5cm. Engraved copper title by M. Petersen with small town plans of Tondern, Husum, Tönning, Bredstedt and Garding. 16 leaves (of 20), 410 pages, 9 leaves. Rubbed contemporary quarter-leather binding. Without the copper map and the genealogical table (both supplied in facsimile copy). Occasional minor dampstaining to margins. Binding slightly rubbed. Overall a solid and collectible copy of this rare regional imprint.
