(*) Pablo Ruiz Picasso (born Málaga, Spain; 25 October 1881 – died Mougins, France; 8 April 1973), known as Picasso, was a Spanish painter and sculptor, creator, together with Georges Braque and Juan Gris, of the Cubist movement.
Regarded as one of the greatest artists of the 20th century, he participated in the genesis of many artistic movements that spread worldwide and had a great influence on other major artists of his time. Tireless and prolific, he painted more than two thousand works currently housed in museums and collections across Europe and the world. In addition, he tackled other genres such as drawing, printmaking, book illustration, sculpture, ceramics and stage and costume design for theatrical productions.
Politically, Picasso declared himself a pacifist and a Communist. He was a member of the French Communist Party until his death, on 8 April 1973 in Notre-Dame-de-Vie (Mougins, France) at the age of 91. He is buried in the park of the Château de Vauvenargues (Bouches-du-Rhône).

(**) Between 1951 and 1952, Pablo Picasso painted a series of motifs titled "Guerra y Paz" for the "Temple of Peace" in Vallauris, France. "Le bouquet de l’amitié" was created for the peace demonstration held in Stockholm in 1958. It is characterized by an intense display of color, inherently conveying a sense of hope and unity. The bouquet forms a bond between two individuals symbolized by the two hands shown within the piece. Speaking of this image, Foster states: “In this peace poster, Picasso has replaced the dove with flowers. By using the hands that grasp the stems of the flowers, he indicates the importance of brotherhood and friendship as essential elements of the piece.”
