ABOUT THE ARTWORK

The Olympic Suite consists of 50 lithographs and silkscreen prints chosen to represent various contemporary artistic trends. The selected artists work in a wide variety of movements and styles, from the hyperrealism of Antonio López to the abstraction of Sol Lewitt, including abstract expressionism, the geometrism of Arden Quin, conceptual art, pop art, the new realism of Baldaccini and Rotella, and the new fauvism of Dokoupil, among others. Among the artists represented are creators of great international renown, widely recognised by critics.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Mimmo Paladino (born 1948) is one of Italy’s most influential contemporary artists and a leading figure of the Transavanguardia movement. Born in Paduli, Italy, he works across painting, sculpture, printmaking, and installation, creating a distinctive visual language that blends mythology, symbolism, and Mediterranean culture with contemporary expression. Alongside his paintings and monumental sculptures, Paladino has produced an extensive body of graphic works, including etchings, lithographs, woodcuts, and screenprints, celebrated for their rich textures, enigmatic imagery, and masterful craftsmanship. His works are held in major museum collections worldwide and have been exhibited internationally, including at the Venice Biennale and Documenta. Among his principal achievements are his pivotal role in the revival of figurative art in the late 20th century and his lasting influence on contemporary European art.

Among his major achievements is his role in expanding the language of Pop Art through collage aesthetics, as well as exhibiting internationally in major museums and biennials. His work has had a lasting influence on contemporary art, particularly in politically engaged visual culture.
