Mulla Fathullah - Qur'an - Surah Yunus (Jonah) - 1780

A highly desirable and decorative Mughal Qur'anic folio dated 1780, containing the full Medinian Surah al-Zalzalah (The Ultimate Quake), chapter 99, together with the tail end of Surah 88 and the opening of Surah 100, The Galloping Horses. These chapter all address the Day of Judgement and moral accountability. Surah 99 is a short but profound chapter emphasizing absolute accountability. It describes the Day of Judgment, when the earth will violently shake, reveal all its buried secrets and hidden deeds, and mankind will be shown every single action they committed—no matter how small. The chapter concludes with two of the most well-known verses in the Quran: "So whoever does an atom's weight of good will see it", "And whoever does an atom's weight of evil will see it." It is written in naskh Arabic script over 11 lines together with the two Surah headings for chapters 99 and 100. Each are written in white thuluth script within a gold cartouche background, bookended in blue arabesque decoration. Between the lines of scripture is Persian commentary in smaller red script, typical of the region where Persian was a major language and therefore and assistance to the reader. There is full framed margins around the scripture ruled in colours and a thick band of gold, outside of which is further decorative framing. Multiple simple 'aya' in gold, which positively sparkle when held up to the light, separate the individual verses. Please note that shipping costs are not solely the cost of the postal delivery service itself. Included within the shipping price is the work undertaken to prepare the article, for photography, for uploading to Catawiki, for preparation and packaging the article securely and for transporting the article to the postal delivery agent for processing. Also, please consider when bidding on this lot that this artwork is shipped from the UK. Import duties will now have to be paid by the recipient to the Postal Service when the parcel arrives in your country. This will likely vary between 5% and 20% of the sale price depending on your country's Import Rate, so please check this if you are concerned. This is a Tax collected on behalf of your Government and is not an additional fee charged by us.
