Bishan Singh - "Summer Nap"

This painting is part of my ongoing series In the Studio of an Artist and was painted from life over a few sessions with a live model. For me, working from life is not only about observing the figure, but also about the trust and presence shared between the model and the artist. There is a kind of invitation in allowing someone into such an intimate space, and the painting becomes a record of that interaction.
The sensuality of the pose is part of this feeling, but I was more interested in the sense of comfort, trust, and quiet intimacy between two people during the process of creation.
