Vintage Indian-Style Hand-Turned Wooden Chess Set with Octagonal Board
A striking vintage wooden chess set comprising a complete-looking set of 32 hand-turned and carved chess pieces in contrasting natural and dark-stained woods, together with an attractive large octagonal chessboard.
The pieces are of substantial decorative form, with traditionally turned bodies and carved knights, bishops and rooks. The board has a broad, raised octagonal surround and attractive figured wood grain, giving the set considerable visual appeal as both a playable chess set and a decorative object.
The set dated to the mid-to-late 20th century, circa 1960–1990. The precise date and woods have not been confirmed and should be regarded as an informed visual assessment only.
