The Artwork

What if our fractures were not something to hide, but the very places where light enters?

In Vortex Kintsugi, Inès Rouissi transforms the philosophy of Japanese Kintsugi — traditionally associated with repairing broken objects while revealing their fractures with gold — into a powerful contemporary abstract composition.

Concentric movements of emerald, deep forest green, jade and mineral sage spiral toward a hypnotic central point. Between them, hand-worked passages of gold pigment rise physically from the canvas, creating a genuine three-dimensional relief.

The gold is not simply a colour.

It is matter. It is light. It is the memory of a fracture transformed into strength.

Viewed from the front, the composition draws the eye progressively toward its centre like a vortex, an ancient tree ring, an eye or an imaginary portal.

Viewed from an angle, the artwork changes.

Its raised golden surfaces catch ambient light differently throughout the day, producing subtle shadows and reflections. The painting therefore possesses a physical presence that cannot be fully reproduced by photography.

At the outer edges, fragments of gold escape from the circular structure and spread across the dark background like particles released from the vortex.

This deliberate rupture gives the composition its tension: something has been broken, reconstructed, and ultimately allowed to become more visible because of its transformation.

Kintsugi Collection

Through her Kintsugi Collection, Inès Rouissi explores resilience, transformation and the possibility of finding beauty in imperfection.

Rather than illustrating traditional Japanese ceramics, the artist translates the philosophical idea of Kintsugi into her own contemporary visual language.

Here, the “fracture” becomes a line of gold.

The line becomes a circle.

The circle becomes movement.

And the movement becomes a vortex.

The wound is no longer hidden. It becomes the most luminous part of the composition.

About Inès Rouissi

Born in 1977, Inès Rouissi is a Mediterranean artist-researcher whose practice develops at the intersection of material experimentation, spatial perception, light and abstraction.

Her artistic research examines the relationships between interior and exterior space, texture, structure, movement and perception.

Working through an approach that combines intuition with experimentation, Rouissi creates compositions designed not simply to occupy a wall, but to interact with their environment.

Her Mediterranean sensibility can be perceived through her attention to light, organic movement and materiality, while the Kintsugi Collection introduces another dimension to her research: the transformation of rupture into visual balance.

A Unique, Entirely Hand-Created Artwork

Vortex Kintsugi is an original one-of-a-kind painting.

It is not a print, reproduction or edition.

The acrylic layers, circular movements and raised golden elements have been worked individually by hand. Variations in relief and surface are intentional characteristics of the artist's process and contribute to the uniqueness of the piece.

The artwork is signed by the artist and accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity issued by the gallery.

Special Protection of the 3D Gold Relief

Because the raised gold texture is an essential part of Vortex Kintsugi, particular attention is given to transportation.

The artwork is shipped flat — not rolled.

The painted surface is carefully protected using glassine or soft protective tissue paper suitable for the artwork, followed by rigid XPS protection designed to help shield the canvas and its three-dimensional relief during transportation.

Rolling in a tube is deliberately avoided for this artwork in order to protect the raised golden texture.

The parcel is securely prepared by the gallery and shipped internationally via DHL Express with tracking.

Collector's Note

At 50 × 50 × 3 cm, Vortex Kintsugi combines a concentrated format with a remarkably strong visual presence.

Its emerald greens, deep black background and sculptural gold create a composition that can appear almost meditative from a distance while revealing increasingly complex material details at close range.

It is simultaneously painting, relief and symbolic object.

A vortex can pull everything toward darkness.

Inès Rouissi reverses that idea.

At the centre of this vortex, what survives is gold.
