ABOUT THE ARTWORK
“Think Outside the Box” is a playful and striking contemporary work about creativity, freedom of thought, and the refusal to stay trapped inside conventional patterns.
The composition combines a child holding a paint roller with a visual reinterpretation of the classic tic-tac-toe grid. By crossing and disrupting the structure with a bold pink diagonal stroke, the work transforms a familiar game into a metaphor: breaking the rules of the box, moving beyond limitation, and creating a new path. The message is clear — real ideas are born when we step outside predefined systems.
The child figure reinforces this sense of instinctive creativity and spontaneity. It suggests the courage to invent, to challenge, and to see further than the obvious. The vivid blue background brings freshness, clarity, and energy, while the black-and-white stencil contrasts sharply with the hand-painted surface, giving the piece a strong urban identity.
A powerful and accessible artwork about imagination, independent thinking, and the courage to create differently.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Alexandre Petrus is a French stencil artist with a strong and instantly recognizable visual identity. His signature technique — the hand-cut double-layer stencil — separates light and shadow into two distinct stencils, layered onto a spontaneous, hand-painted abstract background. The result: a sharp, iconic image emerging from a vibrant and textured surface.
To date, 450+ artworks sold in 10+ countries have joined private collections across France, Spain, the Netherlands, Germany, the UAE, and the US. He has performed live painting for major French institutions including Disneyland Paris, created large-scale murals for corporate spaces, and exhibited in several French street art events. His work is currently shown at Galerie Spot 72 in Le Mans.
His subjects move between childhood, wildlife, mythology, pop culture, and emotionally charged symbolic scenes. Whatever the theme, the signature remains the same: precise stencil work, instinctive background, and the small smiling “AP” monogram — Alexandre’s two initials fused into a face — sprayed on every original piece.
Each artwork is a unique original. No prints, no identical editions: every background is painted individually and spontaneously, making each piece one of a kind. Each hand-cut stencil is strictly limited to a maximum of 50 original artworks. Once that limit is reached, the stencil is permanently retired. This deliberate choice preserves scarcity, protects the identity of each series, and avoids diluting the value of the work.
