A true curiosity, this table is the result of an Italian-Swiss collaboration.
The table was carved in Italy around the 1970s; it is made of walnut in a subtle Louis XV style, with magnificent decorations along the edges of its rectangular top.
It features a built-in music box—still in working order—installed by Reuge, the Swiss watchmaking brand based in Sainte Sophie in the canton of Vaud.
The music box is activated when the table is opened and plays the song “Torna a Surriento” by Italian composer Ernesto de Curtis. Underneath the table, a metal winding wheel allows the music box to be wound by turning it.
The table measures 43.5 x 37 x 27 cm.
The table legs can be unscrewed.
The chess pieces are carved in a Staunton style from wood; the king measures 6.2 cm. The set is complete and in good condition. Nothing to report except for a white knight with a broken ear and a crack on the base of a black knight.
The table is also in good condition; nothing to report other than slight marks and signs of wear on its surface, as you can see in the photos.
I should also mention that the table is slightly wobbly.
To protect the table during shipping, the legs will be unscrewed; everything will be padded and meticulously wrapped separately with multiple layers of bubble wrap, and Styrofoam will be used to secure and cushion all items inside the package
