Montcenis (Baccarat & Sint Louis) - Carafe - Cristal

Exceptional antique crystal decanter attributed to Montcenis, associated with the early traditions of Baccarat and Saint-Louis.
This substantial decanter presents an imposing baluster-shaped body surmounted by an elaborately cut architectural neck. The upper section is formed by a succession of deeply faceted rings and geometric mouldings, creating a sculptural, almost column-like appearance.
The generously proportioned body is richly decorated with broad petal-shaped cuts around the shoulders, followed by striking interlaced oval motifs arranged in horizontal bands. Deep vertical facets enhance the lower section, while finely cut starburst decoration beneath the base beautifully reflects and refracts the light. The design is completed by an impressive spherical stopper decorated with deeply carved scrolling motifs.
The stopper and neck are numbered, confirming that they form a matching set.
The decanter itself is preserved in excellent antique condition, with remarkable clarity and brilliance. Some chips are present on the inner part of the stopper, however, these remain discreet and are virtually unnoticeable when the stopper is fitted and the decanter is displayed or used. Normal traces of age may be present.
A rare and highly decorative example of early French crystal craftsmanship, distinguished by its exceptional weight, elaborate cutting and magnificent play of light.
