With this work, part of the Sono l’oro series, Sonny Insinna explores the profound relationship between the human figure, the preciousness of material, and the fragility of our contemporary history.
The painting depicts an intense close-up of the upper part of an aviator’s face, whose vigilant gaze emerges through historic flight goggles. The golden details of the goggles engage in dialogue with the broad gold leaf surface occupying the lower half of the composition, creating a clear dividing line and giving the image a strong symbolic and suspended quality.
The horizon line becomes a threshold: above it, the gaze of the human being and the ability to observe; below it, a golden surface that may evoke an undefined space, memory, silence, or what remains concealed.
