Antler Chandelier – Geweihkranz Ceiling Fixture with Three Fallow Deer Antlers and Three Pressed-Glass Shades – Germany or Austria – 1950s to 1970s
Vintage Alpine Hunting Lodge Lighting
The antler chandelier, known in German-speaking regions as a Geweihleuchter or Jagdlampe, is a traditional form of Alpine and Central European interior lighting rooted in the hunting-lodge culture of Bavaria, Tyrol, and the Salzkammergut. The Geweihkranz variant, in which several antlers are joined in a horizontal ring, is one of the classic constructions of the form and was produced through much of the twentieth century for hunting cabins, Gaststuben, and country houses. Each piece is by nature unique, built around the specific antlers used.
This chandelier is built as a triangular Geweihkranz from three fallow deer (Damhirsch) antlers, joined at their tips into a ring measuring approximately 55 cm in diameter. The broad palmate shovels are clearly visible in the photographs and identify the species unambiguously. The ring is suspended from the ceiling by four hand-linked chains meeting at the ceiling canopy. Three pressed-glass shades in a moulded hobnail or beehive pattern hang beneath the antler ring, one at each junction point, each fitted to an E27 socket. The wiring, terminal block, and covered rubber insulation are original and consistent with German domestic lighting production of the 1950s to 1970s.
Triangular Geweihkranz construction from three joined fallow deer antlers
Diameter approximately 55 cm across the antler ring
Four hand-linked wrought iron suspension chains with brass-tone ceiling canopy
Three pressed-glass shades in moulded hobnail pattern
E27 sockets throughout
Original covered rubber wiring and porcelain terminal block
Traditional Alpine hunting-lodge form
Condition is Very Good, consistent with age and long domestic use. The antlers show attractive natural patina, colour variation, and light surface soiling throughout, with no cracks or repairs visible. The iron chain and hardware are sound. All three glass shades are present and free of visible chips or cracks.
Ships from Germany. Carefully packed with protective wrapping around antlers and shades.
