Sarreid Ltd. - Commode - Laiton, Bois - Style de campagne

Vintage Sarreid Ltd. Brass-Clad Campaign-Style Chest – Spain, 1970s A striking vintage brass-clad chest by Sarreid Ltd., dating from the 1970s, combining the functional character of traditional Campaign-style furniture with the glamour of Hollywood Regency design. The rectangular chest features two spacious drawers, each fitted with a pair of original brass ring pulls. The entire exterior is clad in brass, with rows of rounded decorative rivets framing the drawer fronts and accentuating the edges of the cabinet. Large brass handles on either side reinforce its distinctive trunk-like appearance, while the rounded wooden feet introduce a warm contrast to the golden metalwork. The design evokes the spirit of Campaign furniture, traditionally associated with portable military and expedition furniture, characterised by practical forms, robust construction, and prominent handles and metal fittings. Here, these utilitarian references are reinterpreted through a luxurious brass finish, creating a distinctive blend of military-inspired aesthetics, exoticism, and 1970s glamour. The chest is particularly evocative of the Campaign Chic and Hollywood Regency interiors that became popular during the mid-20th century, where bold metallic finishes and sculptural furniture were used to create sophisticated, cosmopolitan spaces. Founded in 1967 by Alex Sarratt and Walter Reid, Sarreid Ltd. developed a reputation for distinctive furniture and decorative objects inspired by traditional European craftsmanship. During the 1970s, the company expanded its production into Italy and introduced its now highly collectible Brass Clad collection. These brass-covered chests and cabinets remain appreciated for their distinctive metallic surfaces, decorative detailing, and timeless decorative appeal. With its low proportions and architectural silhouette, this versatile piece can serve as a coffee table, a statement storage chest, or an unusual bedside cabinet. It would complement eclectic, mid-century modern, Hollywood Regency, and contemporary interiors particularly well. The brass displays a beautiful warm patina, enhancing the depth and character of the surface. Condition Excellent vintage condition, with small signs of age and use, including wear and patina to the brass consistent with its age. These characteristics contribute to its authentic vintage appearance. Dimensions Width: 86 cm Depth: 50 cm Height: 47 cm Specifications Manufacturer: Sarreid Ltd.
