The Pioneer Stable Platter drive (cd with label placed down) is until this day very well liked and widely used by manufacturers The Legato Link D/A conversion in combination with the stable drive gives the Pioneer the particularly spatial and high resolution sound this series is famous for. The PD-S801 can possibly be used as a purely digital drive because it has an optical digital output (Toslink). This can be switched on (and off) by means of the “output selector” on the right of the front.
