Glenmorangie Private Edition Complete Set - 70cl - 10 bouteilles

Ten bottles of Glenmorangie from the Private Edition Range. Sonnalta PX Glenmorangie’s Sonnalta PX was the first release of their Private Collection bottlings. Sonnalta PX has been finished in casks formerly containing Pedro Ximenez. The Sonnalta PX is a Pedro-Ximénez-sherry-finished version of the classic Glenmorangie Original Finealta The second in Glenmorangie’s series of Private Editions, Finealta has sparked interest in that some lightly peated barley has been used in its creation – supposedly inspired by an recently-discovered 1903 order for Glenmorangie from the Savoy hotel. The name is Gaelic for ‘Elegance’, it says here, and Finealta has been matured in ex-sherry and plain new American oak casks. Artein The 2012 entry in Glenmorangie’s Private Edition range, named Artein, meaning ‘Stone’. This matches up with the meaning of Sassicaia (from ‘Sasso’, also stone), the ‘Super Tuscan’ wine previously held in the barrels used to finish this whisky. It’s got 15 years old on the label, but it’s actually made up of 2 parts 15 year old to 1 part 21 year old whisky for a solid mix of well matured Glenmorangie. Ealanta The 2013 release in Glenmorangie’s annual Private Edition series of small batch wood experiments, Ealanta differs from its predecessors as it has been full-term matured (rather than finished) in its designer casks, which in this instance are made from heavily toasted new white oak Companta The fifth of Glenmorangie’s yearly Private Edition special releases – Companta, Scots Gaelic for friendship. It’s a marriage of whiskies finished in Clos de Tart Grand Cru wine casks and sweet fortified wine casks from Côtes du Rhône. Dr Bill Lumsden likes to experiment each year and we suspect this will be excellent. Tüsail The sixth entry in Glenmorangie’s Private Collection, showing off the distillery’s experiments with different varieties of barley and named after the Gaelic word for ‘originary’ (an archaic form of ‘originating’). Made using traditionally floor-malted Maris Otter barley, it’s an old-fashioned whisky backed up by Glenmorangie’s modern approach to whisky-making. Milsean Milsean (pronounced ‘mill-shun’ and Gaelic for ‘sweet things’) is the seventh release in Glenmorangie’s Private Edition series. Finished for two-and-a-half years in 154 toasted ex-Portuguese-red-wine barriques, this is sweet with notes of tropical fruit and lemon sherbet, backed up with some ginger spice. Bacalta Bacalta is the eighth release in Glenmorangie’s annual Private Edition series. Finished in casks that were seasoned with Malmsey Madeira, this is rich and fruity with notes of caramelized apricots, dates, almonds and honeycomb. Spios The name Spios, which is Scots Gaelic for ‘spice’, beautifully evokes this whisky’s origins: it has been matured solely in casks that previously held American rye whiskey, a spirit known for its distinctive, spicy characteristics. Spios has a herbal nose and a rich, spicy palate, followed by a long, sweet finish. Glenmorangie Spios is the ninth limited edition bottling in the distillery’s Private Edition series, and the first single malt to have ever been entirely matured in American rye whiskey casks. Allta Glenmorangie Allta is a limited-edition single malt released to mark the 10th anniversary of Glenmorangie’s Private Edition series. The yeasty, biscuit-y nose gives way to an archetypal Glenmorangie palate rich with floral flavours and zesty citrus, augmented by notes of freshly-baked bread, a light menthol freshness and a long, earthy finish. Allta, which means ‘wild’ in Scots Gaelic, is made using a previously-undiscovered strain of local yeast growing on the barley near the Glenmorangie distillery. This yeast has been used to ferment the barley on which it grew before distillation, lending the spirit not only a distinctive flavour, but an undeniable sense of place.
