Âge du bronze Bronze Arrowhead Group (4) (Sans Prix de Réserve)

A group of four Bronze Age bronze arrowheads. Two arrowheads feature a triangular blade, with one presenting with straight, square shoulders and the other with slightly upward-sloping shoulders. One arrowhead features a rounded, triangular blade, with prominent, sharp barbs. The last arrowhead features a deltoid shape, with small barbs, and a flat tang. All the arrowheads display a raised central midrib. Three of the arrowheads present with a short stem which leads down to a long, narrow tang. Patina and earthly encrustations to all the arrowheads. Signs of wear as consistent with age, such as chips to the edges and sides, surface roughness, and scratches. In ancient times a number of nomadic populations, such as the Medes and the Kassites, settled in the Western Asiatic area. Due to the nomadic nature of the tribes, none of the bronzes were of great size, since it was required for them to be light and portable. Excavated items often included weapons, tools, and finials, as well as small amulets and fittings. Everyday objects are also found including pins and bracelets. Their artwork mainly comprises ornaments, vessels and weapons. Archaeological evidence suggests that the bronze objects often serve ceremonial functions given their funerary contexts. Measurements: (circa) L 7.9-9.5cm x W 2.1-3.4cm Provenance: Ex. London Collection, formed between 1990 - present.
