The longest running botanical magazine, it is widely referred to by the name Curtis's Botanical Magazine. Each of the issues contains a description, in formal yet accessible language, and is renowned for featuring the work of two centuries of botanical illustrators. Many plants received their first publication on the pages, and the description given was enhanced by the keenly detailed illustrations. William Bertram Turrill (1890 – 1961) was an English botanist. He worked in the Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew and was responsible for many innovations including a mathematical classification of leaf shapes. Great Flower Books, 2; Hunt, 184; Nissen BBI, 2350; Stafleu and Cowan, 1290. ** This lot is part of an important collection that will be auctioned in the coming months through the Catawiki Collection Service.
