Andre's Gide's famous work "Thésée", a philosophical and mythological narrative published in 1946; where Gide reimagines the life of the classic Greek hero Theseus, presenting it as a reflective monologue. Here in a special limited and numbered art edition published in 1963; featuring 25 stunning (24 coloured) woodcuts by Polish born French artist ABRAM KROL. This edition was printed by Pierre Daynac in Poitiers, published by the artist Abram Krol in Paris and limited to 200 copies - this one being Nr. 163 of 176 copies printed on "papier de Rives" and hand-signed by Krol in the colophon. Oblong portfolio with additional cloth folder and extra cloth slip-case (this one unfresh). Size of slip-case: 35 x 17x 5cm. 138 pp. Except for occasional very faint age-toning in excellent condition. A truly stunning bibliophile collector's item! Abram Krol is generally considered part of the École de Paris, as he emigrated from Poland to France in 1938. As a Jewish artist he survived WW2 by changing identities. After the war he contributed to the Paris art scene.
