Globe terrestre par George Philip & Son Ltd - vers 1910
Tabletop terrestrial globe produced by the London Geographical Institute of George Philip & Son Ltd, presumably dating to the 1910s, featuring a 15 cm diameter sphere and an overall height of approximately 28 cm. The globe is mounted on a semi-circular brass meridian and a turned ebonised wooden base, and displays finely detailed lithographed cartography enriched by a period patina that attests to its authenticity and historical charm. The surface bears English geographical names, ocean currents, and maritime routes, in keeping with the British cartographic tradition of the Edwardian era. The original colouration, though mellowed by time, retains very good overall legibility and vivid tones. Minor signs of wear and small abrasions are consistent with the globe’s age. An ideal object for collectors of antique scientific instruments, study furnishings, or eclectic interiors, it stands as a significant example of early 20th-century educational and popular cartography.
