A well-carved Chinese beige and reddish soapstone seal stamp crowned with Budai, Chinese Republic (1912-1949), ca 1925-1950, ca 7.6 cm. high, 4.6 cm. wide and 2.8 cm. deep. The bold-headed historical Zen master seated in 'lilasana' on an oval base, with smiling facial expression, elongated earlobes, potbellied, wearing a long robe that leaves his belly uncovered, his right hand resting on his knee, the base with engraved decoration of a wave pattern above a circular cartouche containing two characters and surrounded by a mountainous river landscape with a sailing boat, a house and plants, the underside with stylized ancient characters, in excellent condition.
