Trio - KT-8100 Tuner

The exterior shows signs of use and aging, including scratches and stains. Power, sound output, and basic functions have been verified. FM/AM tuner employing a pulse-counting method. The detection section employs a pulse-counting method where the entire detection bandwidth forms a straight line. Compared to conventional S-curve detection methods, this approach reproduces the broadcast station's music waveform directly as the output waveform, inherently preventing distortion. Furthermore, the KT-8100 successfully integrates this into an IC. Treating the detection method itself as a single stable component provides advantages in circuit design. To maximize the pulse-count detection method's characteristics, a double conversion method is employed. This method converts the 10.7MHz intermediate frequency obtained at the first IF stage to 1.96MHz. By increasing the relative frequency offset, it leverages the wideband linearity achieved by pulse-count detection, improving detection efficiency and significantly enhancing the signal-to-noise ratio. To accommodate various reception conditions, a two-stage IF band switching feature is included. The WIDE section employs a two-stage phase-linear two-element filter with excellent group delay characteristics. Combined with the pulse-counting IC, this achieves outstanding distortion characteristics. The double conversion method also delivers a high S/N ratio. The NARROW position utilizes a three-stage configuration of two narrowband ceramic filters, providing high selectivity and excellent interference rejection capability. The front end employs dual-gate MOSFETs and a frequency-linear quad varactor, achieving high sensitivity and high input capability while also providing excellent interference rejection. In the MPX section, low distortion is realized by optimizing the tracking filter function during PLL pilot signal detection. Furthermore, by adopting a PLL that is resistant to temperature and humidity and provides stable switching signals over the long term, stable separation is achieved across a wide bandwidth. The low-pass filter is a 5-element filter with independent L/R paths, achieving both excellent frequency response and low carrier leakage. Additionally, the preamplifier uses the NFB amplifier integrated within the IC, maintaining low distortion even during overmodulation. The FM muting circuit employs an FET switch control method at high audio output signal levels, sharply eliminating station-to-station noise. Furthermore, a positive/negative time difference circuit operates during power ON/OFF, preventing pop noise and shock noise. The AM tuner's IF stage incorporates a high-selectivity ceramic filter combining two 3-terminal ceramic filter elements with coils, along with a new IC. The RF stage includes a spurious suppression circuit that cuts off frequencies outside the reception band, eliminating beat interference from the shortwave band. Furthermore, it incorporates a 9kHz filter tailored to the new channel plan, eliminating beat interference caused by AM station overlap. Both AM and FM tuners use frequency-linear variable capacitors. A long scale with an effective length of 270mm, combined with the adoption of a differential pulley and a large 60φ flywheel, enables smooth tuning.
