1957 Gaja - Barbaresco - 1 Bouteille (0,72 L)

A 75cl bottle of Angelo Gaja Barbaresco 1957, in exceptional condition. Bottled at the estate. Shipped via UPS About the estate: Angelo Gaja is undoubtedly one of the greatest figures in Italian wine. Born in 1940, he took over the family estate in 1961. Founded in 1859 in the Langhe hills of Piedmont, the estate now manages approximately 100 hectares of vineyards and does not purchase any grapes from négociants. Gaja has significantly contributed to the international renown of great Piedmontese wines, particularly Barbaresco and Barolo, by distinguishing himself through innovative winemaking and, above all, aging techniques considered revolutionary at the time, as they broke with the practices then prevalent in the region: selecting the best plots, reducing yields, and aging in new French oak barrels instead of Yugoslavian oak casks. His best Barbaresco plots now produce some of Italy's greatest wines (Sori Tildin, Sori San Lorenzo, and Costa Russi). He was also the first to plant Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, and Sauvignon Blanc instead of Nebbiolo, against the advice of his peers. About the wine: Barbaresco comes from the central part of Piedmont, near Alba. This appellation is among the most prestigious in Italy. Its international renown is largely due to Angelo Gaja's fabulous wines. Relatively lighter and more delicate than its neighbor Barolo, but still tannic and concentrated, Barbaresco is one of Italy's finest and most distinguished wines.
