A very RAREand beautiful book...."The Twelve Dancing Princesses and Other Fairy Tales" published by Doran around 1920. A brightly illustrated collection of fairy tales, retold by English writer Sir Arthur Thomas Quiller-Couch. Illustrated with a tipped in colour frontispiece, fifteen tipped in colour plates, and numerous in-text figures and decorations. A collection of delightful fairy tales retold by Sir Arthur Thomas Quiller-Couch, an English writer and a prolific novelist, who is remembered mainly for the monumental publication The Oxford Book of English Verse 1250/1900. With titles such as: Minon-Minette, Felicia or The Pot of Pinks, Rosanie or The Inconsistent Prince, The Man Who Never Laughed, and John and the Ghosts. Illustrated by Kay Rasmus Nielsen, a Danish illustrator who was popular in the early twentieth century, the Golden Age of Illustration. Nielsen is best known for his collaborations with Disney for whom he contributed many story sketches and illustrations, not least for Fantasia. In the original full cloth binding with light wear around edges and corners, shelfwear, wear head and tail of spine, spine a bit sunned-see photos. Endpapers illustrated a bit spotted. Inside light stains but overall very good, illustrations very good. Lacking pages from 129 to 144, after page 128 start pages -145 to 160- then again starts 145. Nevertheless all illustrations present!!! Illustration at page 137 misplaced but present opposite a different caption than original. Scarce.
