African harp or zither, hand-carved from a single block of wood. It features a hollow resonating body with geometric carvings and clear traces of the former string attachments at both ends. The upper section, carved in a stylised anthropomorphic form, suggests ceremonial or symbolic use. Originally fitted with gut or plant-fibre strings, played with the fingers or with the small striker still attached by a leather strap. Beautiful old patina with authentic signs of ritual use and age. Materials: carved wood and leather. Dimensions: approx. 61 cm high, 12 cm wide, 10 cm deep. Probable origin: Central Africa (Congo or Gabon). Condition: good, without strings; small cracks and age-related wear consistent with its age and traditional use.
